11v11 High School (U15-U19)
Training Philosophy and Curriculum:
Refinement of the total player (technical, tactical, mental and physical) including position specific training. Technical abilities are still important but addressed within the concept of small groups and team play more often than in younger age groups. Continued goalkeeper specific work within the context of team training. There is an emphasis on building on the tactical foundation that has been established at previous age groups. Greater importance on team tactics, with flexibility to change tactics within matches, and preparing players to do so. Fitness is built into the soccer activities and training sessions are more “economical” to incorporate all aspects of the game. Assist the player in refining and working towards their goals (varsity, college, etc.). Understanding game circumstances and how players/teams must change - i.e. up by 1, down by 1. Curriculum topics will be taught in four phases – phase 1 is training in November and December which includes more basic topics as players are coming off their high school season. Phase 2 is late winter and early spring and includes many topics to help prepare teams for early competition. Phase 3 is the middle of the spring and includes more team specific topics and functional formation training such as building out of the back, switching the point of attack, pressing in different formations, etc. Phase 4 has a heavy emphasis on improving highlighted areas from late season matches and preparing for showcases and other high-level competition.
Teams/Rosters:
U15-U19 Teams will play 11v11 and have 13-22 players on each roster with 18 max available for each game.
League Play and Competition:
U15-U19 will mostly play in NPL and other higher level leagues, but will also play in OSPL/COPL/OCL as needed to fit the developmental levels of the team. U15-U19 teams will play in higher level tournaments and showcases to give players as many competitive opportunities as possible in addition to providing more platforms to be recruited by College programs.
